This Castle is situated on the top of Mount Tauro. Here
there was the ancient greek acropolis. It is called Saracen
Castle too, because it was rebuilt in the thirteenth century
by the arabs. It has a trapezoidal form and is endowed
with a tower, which was a control tower. It is dominated
by Castelmeola, a little village in the top of the mountain. |

The main entrance gate of Taormina, called the Messina
gate, since it faces towards the province of Messina,
towards the North.
This photo
shows the face looking towards Taormina, and so behind
me is outside of the centre. The other side was in the
shadow and a photo would be not good as this one. |

Another gate towards the other end of the main street
of Taormina. This gate is called the Catania gate, which
faces Catania towards the South.
This main
street leads from this gate to the other Messina Gate
(shown above), which are apart not much more from 1
to 2km away. |

These are 2 new Maltese friends that we met in Taormina
centre. We heard each other speaking in Maltese and
we talked and became friends. We stayed together for
the rest of our time in Taormina. They are Matthew (right)
and Chris and were of good company and good sense of
humour.
