Myself in my Amiga Room back in 1991 (17yrs age)
HISTORY
It all started when I had this wonderful Amiga computer in 1989. I used a lot for gaming, but since of one my new interests was music, I began to explore and experiment the few Amiga music software that there was available, namely Deluxe Music construction Set and Aegis Sonix. My first ever song was created in DMCS, and couldn't be heard since its format is not supported on PC. However these were score writing progs, and they were quite boring and time consuming to create songs. Then the Sound Trackers Software were invented!!!
First was the Sound Tracker but was quite dodgy and basic. Soon after the Noise Tracker came out and it was a wonderful program to create music easily and in few time. the concept was that music note information (note key and time start and duration) was in the form of numeric Data rather then scorecharts. I never studied music, so this new concept was excellent to start making music. if you can play a melody on the paina, then you can create a good song out of it. Another important feature was the extended use of sound samples. There were large libraries of Amiga sound samples to select the instruments or Sound Fx from. Further more, you could buy an 8-bit sound sampler yourself at a quite reasonable price and create your own samples (Eg my song: I rave something beg with D )
The tracker concept became very very popular and all types of tracker were being invented with more extended and professional editing and sampling features. My favourite one was the ProTracker 3 and 4 on which I created all my latest songs between 1992-1994. Howvwer, the Amiga had one aweful restriction in the music department. You can have a maximum of 4 channels, or in poor words you can play 4 different instruments at one go. This was the major drawback for serious musicians and that why everyone who wanted to get serious moved from the sound tracker scene to Midi Studio Setup, which offers 16-bit and 16 channels just to mention the most 2 important adventages. And that was what I did in Summer 1994. I bought a Synth and othe Music Studio equipment and began to compose my music on Midi Sequencers (Music-X on Amiga) and not anymore on ProTracker. The last song that I made was I think Audio Corrosion which is also one of my favourites.
SONG INFORMATION
The songs are in Amiga Noise Tracker / Pro tracker format and can be heard on Winamp, or a more dedicated amiga module player - the DeliTracker PC. Some of the songs such as the Hell Sector songs, are in a format called Future Composer V1.4 (FC14) and can be played only by Delitracker. You can download these players directly from this page and the install it to your computer or visit the respective home page from the links below. If you visit the homepage you probably have the latest update file, but the versions found below works fine!

Song Name: ANDROMEDA (Chip Song remix) |
Song Style: Chip |
Song Information: This was taken from the original song 'Andromeda' by Mundo Muzique. In fact I was experementing in making chip songs, which by that time were highly requested and popular since they took very little disk space, and so they can fit easily in crack intros, demos and other production made by the amiga scene groups and hackers. Amiga system was based on floppy not HD at that time so the less a demo / intro will take the better. In fact this song just takes 11 kilobytes for 2mins of music.
Chip songs are made from synthetic sound wave instruments which take few hundreds of bytes of space instead of digitized sound samples each taking some couple of Kilobytes. Hence the chip song will occupy very little disk space. I did this for the Amiga group INFECT who I was member. |
Tempo: 128 BPM |
Time Length: 2:00min |
Size: 11 kByte |
Date: 12/Feb/1993 |
Song Name: ANDROMEDA |
Song Style: Dance/Pop |
Song Information: This song is a conversion from the original song Andromeda by Munod Muzique. I really liked this song that I wanted to make one on the Amiga. At that time, I was urged by the Amiga Group I formed part - INFECT to do very short-sized songs called synthetic or Chip songs. Such songs uses synthetic waveshapes instruments instead of sampled ones, which sounds a bit cheap in quality but compromises in the song file size length
I never did one on the ProTracker so I took the chance to start experementing with this song. The target size is usually 20kb, but the song came up to a little less from 60kb. This is becasue I could not resist not to use sampled percussion instruments which take quite some file-space. Hence one can call this song as a hybrid between a 'chip' song and a 'sampled' song. I was determined to make another version of Andromeda without any sampled instruments, hence a pure chip song. |
Tempo: 126 BPM |

Date: 10/Jan/1994 |
Song Name: AUDIO CORROSION |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: I consider this song to be one of the best techno songs I produced on the Amiga, both in terms of composition and sound quality. I managed well to squash in as many samples as possible since the Amiga was limited to use 4 instruments at once with detiorating the sound quality. I was getting very very good on Pro Tracker and Audio Master (sampling software) and this shows the results very well. Some of the samples were taken from a rave song which was cool at that time but now I cant remember what was its name. |
Tempo: 136 BPM |
Time Length: 3:21min |
Size: 83 kByte |
Date: 08/Jul/1993 |
Song Name: BOOK OF THE DEAD |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This techno song is bit on the weird heavy metal side since of its selection of samples and fast tempo. It contains a looped heavy guitar riff, a spooky voice sample and a melanconic organ-based melody. I like most the introduction part of the song when the voice comes in. |
Tempo: 162 BPM |
Time Length: 3:50min |
Size: 194 kByte |
Date: Apr/1993 |
Song Name: BRAZIL (TeknoLogik Remix) |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This song is actually a sort of remix from a song which I liked called 'Brazil' made by Spectrum. I sampled most of its instruments and used them to make my own song. Actually it is my original composition work so not really remix, but since I used most of the samples from this song, I thought that it is adequate to call it a remix. I really liked to sample a techno/rave song to its constituent sound samples and then re-make a song from the samples obtained. Other such examples are Rave the Rhythmn and RAVE-L. |
Tempo: 150 BPM |

Size: 127 kByte |
Date: Apr/1993 |
Song Name: BUMS and TSINS |
Song Style: Percussion Techno |
Song Information: I know it has a funny name, but this song is just composed of percussive intruments hence Bums (drums) and Tsins (HiHats). There are also claps, bongos, etc. Quite original work and a variety of drum beat rhythmns. I was always good in developing original beat rhythmns and I wanted to make a song just of these. |
Tempo: 142 BPM |
Time Length: 3:42min |
Size: 165 kByte |
Date: Jul/1993 |
Song Name: CAROLINE TAL-GENN |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: Well, this is just a copy of the song 'Book of the dead' but replaced the voice sampled 'book of the dead' with another voice sample 'Caroline tal-Genn' which is actually my recorded voice. It means Caroline you are gorgeous and was dedicated to a pretty girl called Caroline (of course!) whom I and my friend Brian was frequenting at weekends. I told her that I make music, and that I will make a song for her to acquire her sympathy! She liked very much the song, but she began to date my friend Brian :-))) Anyway, we remained good friend for quite a while. The robotic voice effect was produced by time stretching the sample. |
Tempo: 162 BPM |
Time Length: 3:44min |
Size: 194 kByte |
Date: Sep/1992 |
Song Name: DEMONIAC TEKNO |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This is one of the very first good techno songs I made. I was 18yrs at that time. Very good mixing and sound quality, but my songs tended to be a collection of 3 or 4 mini-songs variations mixed in one, rather than a main themed song. This song is really a good example of this. The introduction part has a strong influence from the tune of the game 'ghost and goblins'. By the way, I did not encountered or contacted demons to make ths techno songs - it just has the vibe of scary/ghosty music! |
Tempo: 150 BPM |
Time Length: 4:30min |
Size: 129 kByte |
Date: 29/Jan/1994 |
Song Name: ELASTIC DREAMS |
Song Style: Trance |
Song Information: This is a quite unique song because I usually produce techno songs and this song is more trancey and melodic. The main sample is taken from that famous song Plastic Dreams by Jay Dee, and since it is quite similar in style, I gave my song a similar name too. |
Tempo: 128 BPM |
Time Length: 5:40min |
Size: 183 kByte |
Date: 05/Dec/1993 |
Song Name: FLANGE SYSTEM 16 |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: In this song I managed to simulate a special sound effect that was very much used in commercial profesional dance/techno songs. At that time I thought that the effect is called 'flange' effect and hence I named the song Flange system 16, but then I discovered that it is actually called LowPass Filtering. Low Pass Filtering was very difficult to achieve with Amiga Pro Tracker but in some difficult manner it could be done. You had to use a short sample and save 8 or 16 copies of it with each copy being slight filtered off (by a dedicated program) from the previous one so that you will end up with a number of samples covering the full range of filtering scale effect. For a strange reason this song is not reckognized by WinAmp so it could be only heard from DeliPlayer. |
Tempo: 144 BPM |
Time Length: 5:58min |
Size: 13 kByte |
Date: 01/Jul/1993 |
Song Name: FUGUE IN TEKNO MINORE |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This is a very good techno song which its melody is taken from one of Bach's fugues. I heard the original song from Deluxe Music Construction Set example songs. The arrangment and sound quality of this fast 'n' furious techno song are superb. Most instruments were sampled from various songs since I had no other source of techno / rave insruments. |
Tempo: 156 BPM |
Time Length: 5:04min |
Size: 200 kByte |
Date: ?/1993 (not indicated) |
Song Name: HELL SECTOR 1 |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: At this time I was composing some melanchonic tunes due to lonely sad moments I had in my life. I used to escape from these sad moments in composing and playing this type of music. I gathered some of this material and reconverted them into 5 techno/electro styled songs which I called Hell Sector 1 - 5 Additionaly, I wanted to learn composing with the music program Future Music V1.4 and I dedicated much time to make this songs with this prog. It was very difficult to program but then after some time it turned to be fun. This prog was ideal to make small sized synthethic (chip) music and these songs are all short in size.
Hell Sector 1 is a straight forward techno song, with a funky bassline and melenchonic tunes variations. The synthetic instruments combined with sampled percussion really sounds great. A little reverb would have really made the sound cool and wonderful, but reverb was not possible yet. The bassdrum and some synth instruments could have been improved to. But this was my first attempt to use Future Composer.
|
Tempo: 144 BPM |
Time Length: 5:40min |
Size: 40 kByte |
Date: ?/1993 (not indicated) |
Song Name: HELL SECTOR 2 |
Song Style: Electro |
Song Information: This is just a short piece of synthethic-only repetative music. Hell Sector 2 was sort of like a little passage music between Hell Sector 1 and Hell Sector 3. I should had some project in mind for the planing of these songs, but now I forgot exactly why the songs were made with a short passage tune between Sector 1 and Sector 3, and similarly between Sector 3 and Sector 5 tunes. Actually the song should be played looped |
Tempo: 144 BPM |
Time Length: 0:34min |
Size: 7 kByte |
Date: ?/1993 (not indicated) |
Song Name: HELL SECTOR 3 |
Song Style: Techno / Jungle |
Song Information: This song is quite different from the techno 4 by 4 beat and has elements of Jungle and ambient. Very melanchonic, and few of the synth instruments are loudy and high pitched in the song. |
Tempo: 144 BPM |
Time Length: 4:52 |
Size: 25 kByte |
Date: ?/1993 (not indicated) |
Song Name: HELL SECTOR 4 |
Song Style: Electro |
Song Information: Another short piece of synth-only music. Ideally the music will repeat again for 3 o 4 times, but the player seams that it has losts the looping option. Not very impressing piece of tune and very short indeed, but as I explaiend in Hell sector 2, I should have had a plan which the arrangment is done like this |
Tempo: 144 BPM |
Time Length: 0:20min |
Size: 10 kByte |
Date: ?/1993 (not indicated) |
Song Name: HELL SECTOR 5 |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This is the best song from the Hell sector set. With a pumping bass line, punchy bassdrum and good pecussion, and great mixing. Like the others the tune is built up by melanchonic short pieces on a techno style. The sound quality is also the best from the other 4 Hell sector songs. |
Tempo: 144 BPM |
Time Length: 5:00min |
Size: 26 kByte |
Date: ?/1993 (not reported) |
Song Name: HYPNOTIC WAVE - Part 1 |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: Hypnotic wave comes into 3 songs, part 1,2 and 3 and they are one of the first techno songs I composed. I admit they are not the very best techno I created, but they were are quite good for a start, especially part 3 which has a wonderful stereo sound effect and great bassline.
Hypnotic wave 1 was built from digitized sounds sampled from a particular song called 'scream' by SubSonic (if not mistaken) and few other rave songs of that era. The song is in general OK, but the repetative hypno bass line becomes boring. |
Tempo: 132 BPM |
Time Length: 5:26min |
Size: 131 kByte |
Date: ?/1993 (not reported) |
Song Name: HYPNOTIC WAVE - Part 2 |
Song Style: Techno/Jungle |
Song Information: This song is deviation of the usual 4 by 4 Techno beat, and it is more experimental jungle (as was refred to at that time). actually I don't like much this style, but it is good to experiment in different styles and be a bit original sometimes. |
Tempo: 132 BPM |
Time Length: 2:49min |
Size: 61 kByte |
Date: ?/1993 (not reported) |
Song Name: HYPNOTIC WAVE - Part 3 |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: Part 3 is the best of the 3 set Hypnotic wave songs, especially in sound quality and mixing. Quite straight forward minimal 4 x 4 beat fast techno song, teh style which I and many friends liked at that time. I really like the initial stereo effect of the bassline and how the bassdrum enters in. Quite good song! |
Tempo: 136 BPM |
Time Length: 2:52min |
Size: 52 kByte |
Date: Dec/1992 |
Song Name: I RAVE SOMETHING BEGINING WITH D (Driller & Doorbell Mix) |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This is one of my first songs, and I consider it as one of the most original techno songs I ever composed. I was quite happy with the sampler I just bought and decided to sample some live sounds at home. In this song I used the electric drill of my father and our house doorbell and used them to make this great song. The beat is very punchy and powerful, and the mixing of the samples is superb. I like this song very much. |
Tempo: 142 BPM |
Time Length: 3:51min |
Size: 144 kByte |
Date: Sep/1992 |
Song Name: JUPITERIANS ARE TRUE |
Song Style: Techno/Rave |
Song Information: This is a good song containing many samples mainly from commercial some rave songs (such as We Are Back by Bassheads or LFO - forgot), and sounds effects from amiga games. This song actually consists of 4 or 5 themes mixed into one song - something which is amateurish and I used to 'pitfall' quite often rather than concentrationg a song on one theme. However this is also one of the very first songs, and I was still in the phase of experimentation. The mixing, and use of samples is superb here. |
Tempo: 136 BPM |
Time Length: 6:11min |
Size: 236 kByte |
Date: Dec/92 revised: Mar/94 |
Song Name: MALIN - GODESS OF NRG |
Song Style: Trance / Melodic Techno |
Song Information: This song was dedicated to my penfriend - MALIN from Finland. It is basically a melodic techno (or trance if you want) type of song which is not bad at all. I sampled the string section is sampled from my little home keyboard, a Yamaha PSR something, which at that time was my tool of inspiration and creation. Quite different cool song from the usual banging techno. The song was actually done in early late 1992 / early 1993, but was revised and enhanced the sound quality in Mar 1994. |
Tempo: 144 BPM |
Time Length: 5:24min |
Size: 163 kByte |
Date: Jul/1993 |
Song Name: MALTESE TECHNO |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This song is also one of the most original and good songs I did with the Amiga. It includes some samples of maltese traditional songs called 'ghana' and I mixed them into abanging techno song. It required lots of sampling work to fit everything together in tempo, but with dedication and will everything could be done. I am really impressed by myself regards the mixing techniques of the main voice sample at the end of the song - something which is extremely difficult on the Amiga at that time. Very good song!! |
Tempo: 156 BPM |
Time Length: 4:44min |
Size: 343 kByte |
Date: 21/Nov/1993 |
Song Name: NOSTALGY FLOW |
Song Style: Instrumental / Pop |
Song Information: This is one of the two instrumental songs I did on the Amiga. The other song, which is more relxing and soft is called the young emperess. This is a quite melanchonic type of song, and hence its name. I like its melody very much, especially at the middle part of the song when it gets more melow, and without percussion. Quality could be improved, but I was restricted to use cheap samples to keep the filesize as short as possible since this song was going to be squeezed in and included in an Amiga music demo by our sene group - Infect |
Tempo: 160 BPM |
Time Length: 5:43min |
Size: 66 kByte |
Date: Jul/1993 |
Song Name: PROGRAMED 2 TRANCE (Natural Mix) |
Song Style: Techno/Trance |
Song Information: There is a lot to write about this song!! It seams that it is the most song that the people and friends like from the amiga songs I did. I was starting to compose melodic techno - hence Trance, rather from percussive / minimal techno / rave. I composed this song on my home Yamaha PSR toy-keyboard, and then wrote the song on the amiga. It is the most professional song I did so far.
This song gave me two pleasures and satisaction moments in my life. Once I sent a demo cassette of my songs to a local radio program, and this song was the one which the DJ liked most and played on air on the radio in Malta. He played it for 3 or 4 different times. I was so happy and jumped around the room like a crazy man. It was also the tune selected by an Amiga computer magazine to be introduced in a cover disk (or CD). I then shifted my style of composing from techno to trance.
|
Tempo: 125 BPM |
Time Length: 6:39min |
Size: 152 kByte |
Date: 05/Oct/1993 |
Song Name: PROGRAMED 2 TRANCE (Demo Remix) |
Song Style: Trance |
Song Information: This was a remix of the main song so that it will occupy less file-size and hence it can be used in a music disk demo that our Amiga scen group - Infect was programimng. Very good mix too! |
Tempo: 125 BPM |
Time Length: 4:20min |
Size: 82 kByte |
Date: 14/Jan/1994 |
Song Name: PROGRAMED 2 TRANCE (Concentr8 Mix) |
Song Style: Trance |
Song Information: After the success of the Natual mix, I decided to make another mix of this song, this time more melodic and professional. In fact I consider this song the masterpiece of my music creations. It has an atmospheric melanchonic melody, excellent sounds, superb mixing and arrangment, and many effects and originality. The song perhaps lost a bit the techno feeling, and got into a more instrumental/trance style. Really an excellent Amiga song |
Tempo: 130 BPM |
Time Length: 6:40min |
Size: 288 kByte |
Date: Feb/1994 |
Song Name: PROGRAMED 2 TRANCE (Synthetic Mix) |
Song Style: Techno/Trance |
Song Information: This is another remix, this time composed on the synthetic sound music composer - Future Composer V1.4. It sounds quite different from the other since of the use of synthethic instruments ratehr than sampled ones. However the percussion instruments, such as bassdrum and hihats are all sampled, and the beat remains powerful. A remix was done on Future Composer to make the song takes as much little space as possible so that it could be easily used in amiga demos and intros. |
Tempo: 128 BPM |
Time Length: 4:48min |
Size: 30 kByte |
Date: July 1993 |
Song Name: PROGRAMED 2 DANCE |
Song Style: DANCE |
Song Information: This is the sister song of 'Programmed 2 Trance', using same techniques and sounds but different style and melody - this time a more allegro, joyful tune instead of a melanchonic one. Again a very good song which consists of 2 (or 3?) melodies that are professinally mixed and arranged. |
Tempo: 132 BPM |
Time Length: 6:00 min |
Size: 197 kByte |
Date: Feb/1993 |
Song Name: R.A.V.E...L (Original mix) |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This is one of the few song conversions I did, and when I do them, they really come near-to-perfect. This is a conversion of the song R.A.V.E...L by the group Illogical Sequence (if I remember well) on the amiga. The song was minimal style and was easy to rip the individual samples and sequence them to the original song on the amiga. Such a work really involves tough work, patience and a good ear. I don't know why I did this conversion, but it Ithink it was a good challenge for me. |
Tempo: 132 BPM |
Time Length: 4:00min |
Size: 195 kByte |
Date: Feb/1993 |
Song Name: R.A.V.E...S (TeknoLogik remix) |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This is a techno song formed with the audio samples produced from the song R.A.V.E...L. It is not really a remix but original work using these samples. Very good sound techniques and programing in this song. I always liked to make a new song from sampled ripped from commercial rave/techno songs such as the songs Rave The Rhythmn and Brazil. |
Tempo: 136 BPM |
Time Length: 3:09min |
Size: 113 kByte |
Date: May/1993 |
Song Name: RAVE THE RHYTMN (TeknoLogik Remix) |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This is a good techno song using sampled sounds from the song Rave The Rhythmn by Channel X. I like this song very much and contains nice groovy techno basslines. |
Tempo: 150 BPM |
Time Length: 4:35min |
Size: 117 kByte |
Date: 09/Oct/1993 |
Song Name: SISTERS' HYMN |
Song Style: Trance |
Song Information: This is a conversion of an old sacred music song which was sang during church at my primary school of Saint Francis when I was a little boy. The name of the song is not of correct English (what a surprise!), as it should be called the Nun's Hymne since it was sang by the nuns of that school. The song is very beautiful and nicely arranged in the trance/techno beat. I found out that the tune is popular around the world and maybe even you may some time have heard it. For example the mother of my penfriend (who lives in Finland) reckognized the tune. |
Tempo: 128 BPM |
Time Length: 6:10min |
Size: 109 kByte |
Date: Dec/1992 |
Song Name: SONAR TRANCE |
Song Style: Techno/Trance |
Song Information: One of the first tunes, and actually it is quite good. A bit ameteurish since it is composed of about 3 or 4 different variations in one song, but on the other hand that kills repetitivity. The sound and mixing techniques are very good and the bassline is nice and groovy! |
Tempo: 136 BPM |
Time Length: 5:02min |
Size: 171 kByte |
Date: Apr/1993 |
Song Name: SUR MINISTRU |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: Well, this was a song made for my friend ALVIN. He wanted a techno song with the lyrics, 'Sur Ministru Alvin is still kicking' (sur Ministru = Mr Minister). Dont tell me why!!! So I recorded him via my sampler and created this song for him which he liked very much. |
Tempo: 130 BPM |
Time Length: 2:34min |
Size: 123 kByte |
Date: 07/Mar/1994 |
Song Name: TEKNO GHOST 91 |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This is the last song I created with pro Tracker on the Amiga and it contains various sound samples from old rave songs released in 1991 / 1992. Hearing this song is like travelling a journey through the sounds of 1991/1992 in the rave/techno scene. This is another great sound with punchy beat and lots of creativity and original mixing. |
Tempo: 140 BPM |
Time Length: 5:08min |
Size: 170 kByte |
Date: Mar/1993 |
Song Name: THE YOUNG EMPRESS |
Song Style: Instrumental |
Song Information: This is one of the very few instrumental songs that I made with the Amiga. Actually I made just 2 instrumental songs, the other being Nostalgy Flow. This song is sort of a love song dedicated to a girl named Joanne which I fell in love with. She used be with a group of friends that I met every Sunday to play football with. Nothing happened between us. I like the song very much, and when I hear it, my memories run back in time. |
Tempo: 128 BPM |
Time Length: 3:53min |
Size: 132 kByte |
Date: 06/Dec/1993 |
Song Name: THIS IS MY PINOCCHIO |
Song Style: Techno |
Song Information: This is a short tune which consist of two famous songs called Pinocchio and Pinocchio is dead. I made this song mainly for experimentation purpuses, thus to learn make chip songs which use waveform instruments instead of digitized sampled sounds. Quite straight forward song and just 20kb long. It was used in a music demo that our group released some time later for INFECT. |
Tempo: 135 BPM |
