Remarks :

The taxonomy of this species is debatable but recent studies are placing it in Daucus carota subsp. drepanensis. The type of this taxon is a small plant that differs to the plants found in Malta, which instead are very closely related to Daucus gingidium but somewhat are more hispid and have less glossy leaves, maybe they are an intermediate with D. carota s. s. Further investigations should be carried out on this species in relation with the other infraspecific taxa (related species) of D. carota.
