Picture severely
distorted, without sound. |

Since the fault was not a typical snowy
picture, I did not concluded that it was the video
head. The fact that tehre was no sound also made me very sceptical that the
fault is the head. It could easily be an electronice fault. |

Strangely, when I
touched the centre part of the head while in playback, the sound would come
in and the picture sort of improved a little. It was like that when I
provided ground to the head thereas some sort of improvement. Howvere I
checked well the bottom of the head and there was good contact?? |

I further assumed that
there was some serious problem and decided to stop. Also owner said that he
does not want to spend much on repairs. So I decided to stop until a similar
model will come in. |

Eventually another
Roadstar VCR750 entered in April. This model had a quite faulty head, but
good sound and picture just snowy. I replaced heads (so head of RoadStar A in
VCR Roadstar B and vice versa!) The result was stunning. The snowy head on
the recent VCR produced a perfect picture on the old VCR (which produced
distored pic with no sound), while the head of this on the recent VCR
produced a very snowy picture but with sound. |

|
Thus the video head was
the main problem! I left the replaced head since it was working well, and had
to buy a new video head for the other model. I also changed belts for better
service. |

It was very strange how on the original video the head produced a symptom
(no sound / severely distorted Pic0 and on another chassis the sysmptom was
different. It may be that the ground wire connection in the head solder became
dry joint ?! Another opininion is that a previous technician tried to replace
head but he palced it 10 degress out of phase by mistake ?!?! |
