VCR goes to standby

Take up reel rabits
jammed!!! |
Full repair description and observations |
|
|
|
1 |
It was noted that the
left pick up rabbit was jammed. This casued the whole mechanism to jam and so
VCR would switch off to Standby mode. |
|
|
2 |
The jammed rabbit was
released, but then it would jam again because the Video erase head would come
in the middle when the rabbit tries to move back from Play to Stop mode. The
erase head should move to the left side so that it makes way for the rabbit
to move back to the Stop position. Thus I concluded that the VCR lost the
mechanical alignment. |

I spent hours and hours trying to fix the alignment (without the help
of any manual) and eventually I managed to do this challenging job
perfectly. The trap was in the control
switch gear. I was pulling it far anticlockwise and that would mean eject
mode, while it had to be Stop mode. This involved rotating a bit the gear
until a smooth ‘click’ is felt in your hand. When the alignment was done the
video erase head would move back automatically when the take up reel was
retracting back. It is very difficult to explain by writing the whole alignment
procedure from scratch !!!! |

I also changed the belts
and the mechanism was working perfectly, however picture was full of snow L |

I had to replace the
video head as well. |
