6 hours walk along the Eastern Coast of Gozo
March 2004

Page Description This photogallery consists of many photos from a holiday to Gozo that I and my girlfriend Malin did between 18-21 March 2004. The photos are mostly taken for a special planned event that is a long walk of about 12-14km we made around the Eastern Coast of Gozo with our friends Simone camilleri and her boyfriend Piotr from Ludz. (click on icon to view the way we walked on a large detailed map). The walk started from Hondoq ir-rummien, to Ras il-Qala, ghar dorf, Dahlet Qorrot, San Blas, Mistra Rocks, ir-Ramla, and finally Marsalforn. This walk took us 6 hours, and was a mixture of exercise, adventure, wonderful views and fun. This particular page contains 10 photos taken during the walk from Rdum Venuta to final destination point, which was Maralforn Bay as indicated in the map here. For each photo below, there is a brief text explaining the photo. Names are taken from a map. Photos GOZOWALK1-71 : Walk around the Eastern Coast of Gozo (Mar/04) Click here for to view a medium Sized Photo (about 120 Kb) Here is one of the most strange things that we have came across in our voyage, this rock with a solitary shrub growing at the very edge of a clay-rock slope. GOZOWALK1-72: Walk around the Eastern Coast of Gozo (Mar/04) Click here for to view a medium Sized Photo (about 120 Kb) After several minutes of walk along the coast line, we arrived to another clay shore with several rocks and pebbles on top. Here Simone is amazed looking at the number of dead jellyfish swaying to and fro in the very shallow water just upon this clay rock. These were quite large jellyfish with a purple cross-like shape on their top. We still have much more to walk, but at least the way is quite easy, relaxed and enjoyable. This photo is a look-back of the way we have walked recently. Looking at the map here should be part of Xaghra, beneath the "Rdum of Venuta". GOZOWALK1-76: Walk around the Eastern Coast of Gozo (Mar/04) Click here for to view a medium Sized Photo (about 120 Kb) We really had another tough exercise to walk up the long and steep cliffs full of slippery and spiny plants. My slippers upper covering where a bit soft and the spines could easily penetrate in, so I had to be more careful. Finally we reached this plateau among a large area of red groundsel ("silla" in Maltese) abd we had our last break, and this memorable amazing photo. This is going to be a photo that I will look at very often! After about 10-15 minutes we continued our final part towards Marsalforn, which was quite near now. The very far cliff is that of Mistra Rocks between Dahlet Qorrot and San Blas. It was half past five already and still walking towards Marsalforn. GOZOWALK1-78: Walk around the Eastern Coast of Gozo (Mar/04) Click here for to view a medium Sized Photo (about 120 Kb) I did not have any idea how much far away we were from our final destination, but as soon as I saw this area, I recalled that we were at Marsalforn, and so very very near to the end. 2 days ago I and Malin came for a walk from our flat in Marsalforn in the night, and we stood here for several minutes in complete darkness watching the sparkling stars. This corner hides all the artificial lights from Marsalforn's coastal streets and buildings. It was very romantic moment. We used my digital camera LCD screen as a mini torch. Sorry for the picture quality but the sun was not in a favourable position GOZOWALK1-80 Walk around the Eastern Coast of Gozo (Mar/04) Click here for to view a medium Sized Photo (about 120 Kb) This is a well known spot at Marsalforn where many people will come to swim and bathe. We walked down to the main streets and hence finished our long voyage from Hondoq ir-rummien. We were very happy about this walk. Simone and Malin told us that the walk took us more or less 6 hours. Our dreams that one day we walk around the whole island of Gozo (3 times as much as today) got a bit misty at this right moment. We finally sat in one of the bars by the sea and had a fresh cool drink. It was really a wonderful day that I would not forget easily.
