BENNAS (SUMMER 2004)-01 : Summer vacation in Finland 2004 - Bennas, Turku, Larsmo, Jakobstad, Vasa, etc |
|
Photo taken from a small duck pond very near to the residence cottage in Bennas. The pond is peaceful and ideal to rest a bit from the daily work if the weather permits. There are few benches to sit on, or if you want you can lay on the grass. I, Malin and Gungerd (Malin's mother) went here after some days of rainy and cloudy weather. Eventually we left in time as soon it started to rain a little again.

Photo of the water fountain (a very basic one) in the duck pond surrounded by greenery. I managed to attract the ducks by mimicking that I am eating and throwing something in the pond! (I was not throwing anything of course)

Johan (Malin's father) cutting the long grass with the motorized rotary blade. After that, the grass must be cut shorter but a special machine called lawn-mower and finally, the grass is raked to remove any remaining grass.

Here is myself in action while raking the grass with the plastic rake (Called 'refsa' in Swedish). Seems easy but quite an exhausting job - very good exercise for the arms and back.

A photo of Malin cleaning the windows. She did most of the indoor cleaning except cleaning the carpets in the terrace - she left this tough work to mr. muscles (hence me - who else)

Another advantage of having a large garden around the house is to make barbecue. With this small barbecue set, making some tasty sausages is very easy. Johan is not a good cook, but he is great to barbecue - the sausages where really good.

Another nice function of the garden is to have a coffee siesta with some relatives/friends around the table outside in the warm mild sunshine of Finland. In the photo there is Malin, Gungerd, Manfrid (Gungerd's father) and Olaf and Gunliz, Gungerd's aunt. Aaahh!! - Malin is telling me to mention her - she have refurbished the chairs and table and painted them

Manfrid, Malins' grandfather in his good shape despite the 91 years of age. He was a master of skiing and won several local competitions in skiing.

A strange natural like fountain in a quite large park in Kokkola. We usually go to the town of Kokkola, about 40km away from Bennas since of the good shops there are. Parking could be a problem because they are either pay-type or restricted to stay for 1 or 2 hours only.
