The Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin at the center of old town of Tallinn. It was built so long ago that the earliest history of ancient building can be reconstructed on suppositions only and estimated to be soon after the invasion of the Danes in June 1219 that the first wooden predecessor of the present church was built. About 10yrs later they rebuilt it in stone. Throughout the centuries the cathedral was constantly being reconstructed and gained its final distinguishing look only in the 14th century. The Dome Cathedral is also famous for its organ, which was built in 1913 by the famous German master Wilhelm Zawer. The instrument with its unique romantic sounding remains in working condition, thanks to love and care that surrounded it. Currently the Dome Cathedral is a working Lutheran church.

The Town wall, surrounding and protecting old Tallinn since the 16th century. With its defence towers it had become one of the most powerful and strongest defense systems in Northern Europe by the 16th century.

While walking through the twining rather narrow streets lined by high building, we found ourselves along a high balcony with a magnificent view of most of Old town. This photo shows St. Olaf church and the numerous red-roofed buildings around.

This rooster-shaped wind pointer cannot be described as the simplest of them all. Quite artistic indeed.
