The unit was carefully opened and
dis-mounted so that the cassette unit can be reached and analysed. |

All ribbons and plugs removed were
appropriately marked. A capacitor in series in one of the few ground wires
was found to be disconnected (cut out from place from the soldering point). |

The face of the unit were
there was the cassette unit cannot be removed free from place due to the CD
tray. This was fixed to the CD unit by glue (no screws). The unit had to be
carefully powered up, and the CD eject button was pressed so that CD tray
moves out and then the unit was powerd off from mains with theCD tray out.
This gained enough working space to work on the cassette, but all manovres
must be carefully made so that no excessive force is done to the CD tray
causing unwanted damage to it. |

On analysing the fault, there was 2 belts
out of place and broken in the casseette mechanism. Each belt was coming from
each of the two cassette units (A,B) The belts were
replaced carefully in place - great patience was required in this task since
I could not work and manipulate the cassette uint freely. |

Once the belts were mounted in the
approprate pulleys, the FF and Rew worked fine. The unit was mounted back and
tested further the REW and FF functions – no problems were seen. |

It was very helpful that
I wrote every single action I did when dismounted the unit, such as
description of how the plugs/ribbons were connected, and where the screws
were removed from! |
