PHOTO GALLERY:
Malin's first holiday in Malta - Sep 2002

Page Description

This Photogallery is dedicated to the holiday that my girlfriend - Malin - had in Malta in Sep 2002. She came to Malta on the 13th Sep after a 4 hour trip from Stockholm, and left back on the 23rd early morning. However it was not her holiday, but OUR holiday, becasue for me it was like a holiday too; with the difference that it was in my own country. This was thanks to Malin who made this time magical and an experience which I never forget, even if I die at the age of 100years. We went to many many places around Malta and Gozo, such as Valletta, Mosta, Bugibba, Mdina, Qawra, Dingli, Bahrija, Ghajn Tuffieha, Gnejna, Mistra, Zurrieq, Zabbar, Kirkop, Birzebbugia, Buskett woodland and more Maltese sites. During our 3 days we spend in Gozo we visited the Citadel, Ta' Pinu, Calypso cave, Xerri's Cave, Kola Windmill, Ggantija, Xlendi, Dwejra Bay at moonlight, Marsalforn, Ramla Bay and Wied Ghasri. Finally we also made a ferry trip around Malta. Our holiday was just perfect and at the end it felt that it was just a start. Now we are the most happiest persons in the world !! !! !!

Visitor hits from 20-Mar-03:

In various places around Malta and Gozo, such as here in Xghajra (Gozo) we find some prehistoric Temples. This one called Ggantija (pronounced 'ch-gun-tea-ya') is believed to date 4200-3500 BC, and is one of the oldest buildings in the whole Europe

This is a photo containing 3 things linked to Malta, the stone wall (called hajt tas-sejjieh), the common cactus fruit known as prickly pears (Bajtar tax-xewk) and at the background there is Kola's Windmill, which is a museum of how the traditional Maltese family used to live about 80 - 100 years ago. Kola has nothing to do with coca kola but it is a short name for Nikola (Nicholas).

This is a cave discovered by the owner of a house (surnamed Xerri) who was digging for a deep well for his house 60 years ago. We were told that every inch of those finger like structures takes 1000 yeasr of dripping water. The cave was quite big, and there were stalactites and stalagmites in various shapes, sometimes resembling animals.

GOZO - TA' PINU CHURCH

This is the most famous church in Gozo, situated in the middle of countryside, which is dedicated to the Madonna ta' Pinu. It is believed that many people who prayed here has been listened and for example their sickness was cured miraculously. It is a very nice and large church.

Malin dressed in latest fashion !!! Well, for the church keepers, she was wearing quite sexy clothes (a T-Shirt and a shorts) and they forced her to wear these funny clothes so that she hides her bare hands and legs. Behind, one can see stretches and gypsum masks. The whole wall was covered with such 'medical' things, which were given by persons who had their prayers listen and so cured from the disease they suffered and hence they did not need anymore such things.

GOZO - WIED GHASRI

This was one of Malin's favourite swim places. This is a valley ("wied") which ends up in the open sea. The water is quite cool, and the high cliffs makes this sea to have a unique sensation of like being in a closed sea or natural swimming pool. The only drawback is that ashore there is no sand or flat rocks, but numerous pebbles which are not comfortable to walk bare footed on or lay on.

Down the Wied Ghasri beach. We had a very enjoyable swim. I manage to swim my longest swim in deep water and Malin taught me how to float by laying tummy up on water. Later we were alone on the beach, and it was so peaceful and relaxing. Great time here too.

GOZO - CITADEL

THere we are in the small old city of Citadel, situated in Victoria Gozo. This small town is very similar to Mdina. It was built on a high hill, and then fortified by steep high walls. Here is a cathedral, some old buildings, and magnificent views since being located very high. This is a cannon used by the Knights about 300 - 400 years ago in front of the Cathedral dedicated to Our Lady (Madonna).

Some old buildings and ruins in the Citadel. It was quite windy and Malin was having a nasty fight with her hair so that it will remain still for the photo. I had to take her about 5 photos! This is the best looking (but not my favourite!)
