The much awaited day has finally arrived. We
are here standing near the AirMalta Airbus aeroplane,
seconds before leaving to our holiday in Budapest
on the afternoon of the 30th of May 2006.

A
typical single photo that shows most important
part and sites of Budapest taken from the Castle
at Buda side. Here one can see the Parlament,
Chains Bridge and several large building of
which detail will be seen in the next photos.

Portrait of Malin with St. Stephen Basilica
and the Chains Bridge (over the Danube River)
at the background. From these photo one can
already notice that we did not have lots of
sun. |

A beautiful photo of the Danube splitting Buda
at the right and Pest at the left, joined by
the Chains Bridge which is the most famous and
important of the 7 bridges in Budapest. This
photo is taken from Gellert Hill.

One characteristic in Budapest (and other
Eastern or ex-Soviet countries) is the numerous
huge and highly decorated building that there
are, sometimes standing side by side along
an entire road. This is today the Four Seasons
Hotel (5+ star) situated just opposite the
Chains Bridge at Pest side.
This
is also known as Gresham Palace which is Acclaimed
as one of The Finest Examples of Art Nouveau
Architecture In Central Europe. With the original
details now breathtakingly restored - including
sweeping staircases, stained glass, mosaics,
ironwork and soaring wintergardens - Four
Seasons has renovated this architectural jewel
as a grand vintage Hotel with 21st Century
infrastructure.

This
is Parizsi Udvar, an elegant and decorated building
found near Ferenciek Tere, also near our hotel
- leo Panzio.
Although
not the bustling place it once was, this elegant
shopping arcade (designed by Henrik Schmahl
in 1913) is well-worth a visit, particularly
as it's just around the corner from Váci
utca. The building, which was originally commissioned
by a savings bank, contains motifs, mosaics
and ornaments of every description, with fragile
and intricate woodwork forming part of the
roof structure. Although criticized at the
time for being too garish, it's a far cry
from the bleak functionality of today's Budapest
malls.

Two large, identical buildings at the opening
of Elisabeth bridge (Erzsebet hid) a few meters
away from Ferenciek tere. These somehow remind
me of Lord of the Rings.

I must say that I have a softer spot for Buda
part rather than Pest. This is a photo of Buda
showing the main attractions - The Royal Palace
(in green) and the Fisherman's Bastion which
holds a small old village (for pedestrians only)
and the wonderful Mathias Church with its tall
grey and highly decorated and sculptured tower.
One can also see thousands of houses scattered
in Budapest Mainland and the TV tower far at
the back.

One of the most visited sites in Budapest is
undoubtfully the Parlament of Hungary, which
looks like the palace of London. This is situated
on Pest side at the Danube bank. At the background
there are more flat-apartments, houses and further
away from the centre, smaller cottages. |

One of my favourite photos is this night shot
of Chains bridge which is lighted up and gives
the beautiful site. Up at the back there is
Gellert Hill and the statue of Liberty.
