This Synagogue is the second largest synagogue
in the world, after New York's Temple Emmanuel.
The Great Synagogue of Budapest was completed
in 1859 from a Lajos Förster design.
Two
impressive 'Moorish' style domes make it one
of the most distinguishable landmarks in Pest,
while the detailed façade of the building
is decorated with brickwork in the heraldic
colours of the city - blue, yellow and red.
The
Synagogue has seating for 3000 people and
is a centre of Neolog Judaism.

Every man who enters the Synagogue has to cover
his head, and if he does not have a hat with
him he can borrow a kippa from the Synagogue.
This is shown in the photo, which is taken in
front of the beautiful pedestal with the David
star on top. |

This large mustard-coloured buliding on Deak
Ferenc Ter is called Anker Palace. It used to
be the head office of an insurance company.
It is a good landmark to know where the popular
Deak Ferenc ter is.
