More photos from the wonderful island of Gozo. Here is a narrow valley which ends up to the open sea (hence it is called a gourge) at a famous place in Gozo called Xlendi. Apart from the wonderful views, and high cliffs, this place has plenty of restaurants and is full of night life in Summer.

Another fantastic site at Dwejra, western coast of Gozo. It looks quite strange and puzzling at first glance, but this is really sea water! This area is few metres below sea level, and the water flows in and out here through a cave in the wall of rock. It is said that inside the cave there is an incredible blue water with bluish reflections around the cave interior walls. One can go through the cave by small boats which leads to the open sea, beside an important rock called the "Fungis rock" on which an endemic species of fungi grows.

These mirror-like plates, lying on teh surface of the rock are man-made pits or pans cut in the rock many years ago. Sea water gathers in the pits, and eventually it evaporates by several consecutive sunny days (a common event in Malta!) leaving crystals of pure sea salt (rich in iodine). This is then collected, purified and packed for food industry.

Strange Title, but it explains perfectly the picture. Large limestone boulders which are smoothly rounded up by long time erosion, from the salty sea water.

The following 5 pictures proves how much beautiful and undescribable are the sunsets in Malta and Gozo during winter. These photos are nothing compared with the beauty of the real experience. I must add the colour appearing in the next photos is natural and slightly manipulated or enhanced by software. This photo is the blue sky with various high clouds patterns

SUNSET AT XLENDI Photos from the Maltese islands (pic 18) |

An impressive sunset on the Maltese islands. The visibility was wonderful this day, with no distant clouds, and one could see the sun just 'sinking' in the sea. Sunset in Malta will not take more than 2 minutes, and some persons claimed that they can notice the sun moving down!. As you may already read in the other photos, this sunset is taken at Xlendi (under the Xlendi tower) during a fine sunny Sunday in mid January.
