My holiday in Budapest (2001)
Here is a set of photos from my holiday in Budapest, Hungary in September 2001 with my friend Etienne. It was another wonderful holiday, but perhaps a little less beautiful from that in Prague. The city is very large, and quite busy in the center. The buildings are generally huge and decorated and there are numerous large shops and restaurants too. At a particular underground station there was a huge complex consisting of more than 400 shops - a place were we spent most of our money!
Budapest is divided into two sides, Buda and Pest, by the Danube river, however they are joined by large and impressive bridges. There are numerous historical places, ancient churches, interesting museums and wonderful site seeing places, especially at Buda, which is the more ancient of the two sides. Pest is more busy and modern. The weather was not that excellent, and most of the time it was cloudy, and sometimes raining.
We also visited other suburb villages near Budapest namely, Eger and St.Andre which offered wonderful places, countryside, historical places (for example castles) and panoramic scenes. The air is always fresh in Budapest, and you never get tired - you can walk the whole day. Anyway, here are some photos of our wonderful holiday in Budapest

This was a large tunnel under the city of Buda. We arrived at the terrace above the tunnel and we took a photo from there which is seen below.

A photo taken from the tunnel terrace, showing a round about and one of the bridges present in Budapest. You can notice how much busy the city is. Quite often a traffic jam took place here.

Here I am beside a butterfly collection showcase, found in a quite large zoo in Budapest. It was the first time I ever went to a zoo. We had only 2 hours time in the zoo, and in my opinion one has to spend at least a whole day to visit in detail all the parts of the zoo. There were many types of animals, such as lions, tigers, bears, frogs, zebras, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, plenty of fish, stuffed insects and lizards, a botany, and much more.

This was an incredible place at a particular station. It was a huge shopping arcade complex, where here you can just see one third or even less of it. It was 4 story (plus basement level) and consisted about 400 different shops. I and Etienne spent a fortune here! I finished all my money in the VISA and doing so I entered in a nice financial problem because I had few pound left to spend the rest 2 days. Fortunately I had some cash available for daily expenses and take-away food.

What you think is this? A hut, a private house, a small school, a museum, a palce to eat??????? Nope .. it is the E-Club a wonderful discotheque. we came here on Friday and Saturday night. On Saturday we spend an hour in the que and guess what, it began to rain and guess again we had no umbrella. So we stayed about 45mins under the rain. However it was worth it. There I an Etienne met 2 girls, of which one (Monika) was drunken and could not talk with us, while the other (Krizstina) was very nice, educated and friendly. In fact we still write emails to each other every now and then.
