My holiday in Budapest (2001)

Here is a set of photos from my holiday in Budapest, Hungary in September 2001 with my friend Etienne. It was another wonderful holiday, but perhaps a little less beautiful from that in Prague. The city is very large, and quite busy in the center. The buildings are generally huge and decorated and there are numerous large shops and restaurants too. At a particular underground station there was a huge complex consisting of more than 400 shops - a place were we spent most of our money!

Budapest is divided into two sides, Buda and Pest, by the Danube river, however they are joined by large and impressive bridges. There are numerous historical places, ancient churches, interesting museums and wonderful site seeing places, especially at Buda, which is the more ancient of the two sides. Pest is more busy and modern. The weather was not that excellent, and most of the time it was cloudy, and sometimes raining.

We also visited other suburb villages near Budapest namely, Eger and St.Andre which offered wonderful places, countryside, historical places (for example castles) and panoramic scenes. The air is always fresh in Budapest, and you never get tired - you can walk the whole day. Anyway, here are some photos of our wonderful holiday in Budapest

Here is a photo I took from a very old castle, which I forgot which city it was situated, but I am quite sure it was ViseGrad. Here is shown a simulation of how people were being tortured in this case by burning them during the medieval battles.

While here are the crown and jewellery the king of the castle used to have. I assume these are fakes and the real ones are kept somewhere safer. It is evident that Hungary has a nice history too, and it was in battle against the assault of the Turks which wanted and attempted to invade Hungary a number of times. They also tried to invade Malta in the Great Siege of Oct 1965 but they did not mange to either!
