My holiday in Budapest (2001)
Here is a set of photos from my holiday in Budapest, Hungary in September 2001 with my friend Etienne. It was another wonderful holiday, but perhaps a little less beautiful from that in Prague. The city is very large, and quite busy in the center. The buildings are generally huge and decorated and there are numerous large shops and restaurants too. At a particular underground station there was a huge complex consisting of more than 400 shops - a place were we spent most of our money!
Budapest is divided into two sides, Buda and Pest, by the Danube river, however they are joined by large and impressive bridges. There are numerous historical places, ancient churches, interesting museums and wonderful site seeing places, especially at Buda, which is the more ancient of the two sides. Pest is more busy and modern. The weather was not that excellent, and most of the time it was cloudy, and sometimes raining.
We also visited other suburb villages near Budapest namely, Eger and St.Andre which offered wonderful places, countryside, historical places (for example castles) and panoramic scenes. The air is always fresh in Budapest, and you never get tired - you can walk the whole day. Anyway, here are some photos of our wonderful holiday in Budapest
EGER 1 | ![]() |

This is one of the local wine shops found in a small square in EGer. The wine here was really good and we bought some fresh wine to take with us at home.

A quite famous basilica at Eger. You can see most of the Maltese people who were with our tour, including the tour leader Joe who was very funny and says lots of jokes. Ha ha ha! - I am really missing this holiday :( !!!
VISEGRAD 1 | ![]() |

I think this was one of the most beautiful cities we went around. First of all this city is located at high altitude and surrounded by trees and forests. The air was so fresh and it wsa very nice to stay there the whole day and relax and sleep. Visegrad is the nearest city to Croatia. There were some terraces with unbelievable picturesque views such as this one. I just wished that it was sunshine so that I would have achieved better photos!

Another wonderful view of the countryside and river Danube from Visegrad. You could only listen to the wind-shaking of branches, chirping of birds and murmur of the river here.
ESZTERGOM | ![]() |

I am not quite sure, if this photo was from Esztergom or another city in Hungary. However this was another city in Hungary that our tour organised to visit. It was a quite old city and there was a battered / ruined castle, since this city was under attack from the Turks.
