PHOTO GALLERY:
Joensuu and Savonlinna - East Finland
14-18th, June 2006

Page Description

This photogallery consists of many photos from a short holiday in few of the several beautiful towns situated at East Finland, namely - Joensuu, Savonlinna and Punkaharju. These towns are a perfect place for relaxing, enjoying nature and have some fun visiting site-seeing places marked on the maps. One of the most interesting sites was a fairly large castle situated on a small island in the lake of Savonlinna. These towns are very organised, clean, many kind people, not chaotic or overcrowded with traffic or people, and not very large. Visiting these cities by a bicycle is highly recommended. Shops, restaurants, pubs, parks and museums are abundant too.

Visitor hits from 10-Jul-06:

The guide showing us the King's Hall. During the Middle Ages the officers ate and spent time in the King's Hall and important guests were entertained there. The Swedish King Gustavus Adolphus II had the King's Hall in his use when he visited Olavinlinna in 1622.

Today the King's Hall is a popular (and not very expensive) place to arrange weddings and other parties.

Notes from the photographer: The spooky background effect with the subject still in focus is one of my techniques! No post processing involved. Red eyes of the guide give more spookiness ! ! !
