View from Verkkosaari showing the river peppered with a bright yellow material floating on large part of it. I was quite puzzled what this might be, but at the end I discoveerd it is the deposit of loads of pollen produce by conifer trees on almost all land and islands.

Resting on a small, sandy shore at Verkkosaari. It's not an everyday circumstance to have a peaceful shore for yourself. It was also hot with gentle cool breeze - and ideal situation for a delightful nap + sun-bathing cocktail!

| Finally enjoying the long awaited "muikku" (in English: vendice)! This type of fish is a speciality in the region of Finland, and it was sold in many places, here on the market place at the main square of Savonlinna. These were served fried together with fresh lemon and some white sauce. I really liked them, though they are not salty as Mediterranean fish. Relatively cheap, surprisingly filling and no spines! |

The bird life is rich in Savonlinna, and both the ducks and seagulls are quite tame and not afraid of people at all!

The wooden church of Saarijarvi, built in 1849 encountered during our way back towards Jakobstad/Bennas. We have driven about 1300km during this holiday to East Finland.
