My visit in Sweden and Finland (2002)

Here are some photos from the nearest town to the village of Bennas - Jakobstad. With us, joined Katarina, Malin's greatest friend. They took me to various places around Jakobstad and we had great fun there. Jakobstad has just recently celebrated its 350th birthday.

JAKOBSTAD (Finland) 31-Jakobstad_CityShopStreet(Malin+Katarina+Stephen)
This is a photo taken to one of the cities situated near Bennas, a city called Jakobstad. This day joined us a friend of Malin called Katarina. She is the best friend of Malin, and they are neighbours and friends from when they where little girls. We spend the morning and most of the afternoon in this city which has just celebrated its 350 years in begining of June.

JAKOBSTAD (Finland) 32-Jakobstad_PietarsaariChurch
This is the old church of Jakobstad. It is made of wood, like many other old buildings. It is called Pietrasaari church (Pietrasaari means Jakobstad in Finnish) I was quite amazed that the names of cities are so much different from Swedish to Finnish. In fact all city names are written both in Finnish and in Swedish

JAKOBSTAD (Finland) 33-Jakobstad_PedersoreChurch
This is another large church, called Pedersore. It is a very old church, which according to historical documents, it ages from 1250. Once, most of it (including the tower) was burnt by a fire which was accidentally caused by a candle. Then it was rebuild again soon after. Beside the church there is a large graveyard where Katarina and Malin's grandpa / grandma are buried.

JAKOBSTAD (Finland) 34-Jakobstad_CityHall
This is the city hall of Jakobstad, a quite large building situated in a large square. Here is the centre of the city and there is the market and many shops around here. It was closed and we could not peep in.

JAKOBSTAD (Finland) 35-Jakobstad_SchoolPark(Malin+Stephen)
another wonderful place to be - the school park. This is a large park full with plants and vivid flowers of many types, as can be seen in the photo. There is also some statues and a fountain. It is the park used for recreation and breaks by students of a quite large college.
